Ramadan 2021
The Ramadan food packs project was an initiative by Himmah, GAIN Diaspora, Nottingham City Council, Mojatu Foundation, Hyson Green Youth Club, ACNA Center, FYA Nottingham Equal and FMB Radio.
The project was mainly targeted to provide hot meals to families of the African Diaspora community in Nottingham, during the month of Ramadan. The hot meals service was every Saturday during the month of Ramadan, that is 17th April, 24th April,1st May and 8th of May. The meals offered were from various African backgrounds, with different African Kitchens offering their support every week e.g Sudanese Kitchen, Gambian Kitchen and the Afro Caribbean Kitchen.
The food packs consisted of hot meals, fruits, dates and water, the hot meals offered were a mix of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals including: Lamb, jollof, chicken biryani, vegetable biryani, vegetable soup and bread.
The packed meals were over 450 reaching over 200 families. The packing of the food was done at Hyson Green Youth Club with the help of packing volunteers who made sure all the packs included hot meals, fruits, dates, soup, and water. The meals were delivered by a dedicated team of volunteers who drove to the families homes between 6 pm and 8 pm, so the families received food just in time for Iftar.
